2011 AGm Notes

The Club held their AGM last Sunday in Abbeyknockmoy which was well attended. The Chairman, Brendan Connolly, in his opening address complemented and thanked all the people for their help during the course of the year in running the club activities from team preparation, fundraising, maintenance of club property etc. He thanked all those people who contributed financially to the club whether it be through sponsorship, purchase of tickets etc. On the sporting front, while it wasn't as successful as he wished at adult level, he contended good progress was made in all grades overall with the capture of the 1st minor title and U-16 title being the highlight and unlucky in the U- 14 Feile final to lose out by one point, however they captured the U-14 SVL cup which is a good omen. He thanked all managers & selectors who gave many hours for all their efforts in looking after all the club teams. Brendan also congratulated all Schools who took part in the Fr. O'Brien Parish School Hurling Competition which was a great spectacle, and wished to thank all those who made it so successful. Congratulations were offered to Paul Flaherty and his Galway minor team mates on winning the All-Ireland Final, Brian Flaherty on making the Galway Senior Squad & Calom Mulry on making the Co. U-14 Dev. Squad. The recent addition of the Astro-turf pitch he believes is money well spent and will help enormously in training teams. In his closing address, sympathy was offered to all those who had bereavements in the past year and also wished a speedy recovery to those who are ill at this time and wishes all well for the coming year.

The secretary's report, given by Michael Coleman, gave a detailed report of all club activities over the course of the year from performance of all teams from Intermediate to the u-6s, fundraising activities, club development programmes. He complimented all managers and selectors for their work in team preparation, the players for their efforts, especially those involved in the under-age where more emphasis and help is required in promoting the game. He thanked all the sponsors for their contributions and refreshments provided and were most welcome. He complemented the astro-turf development and all those involved including the help from the Galway Rural Dev. Co. He thanked all those people who contributed financially to the club during the year and hoped going forward they will continue to do so as the costs of running a club are high. In his closing address, he thanked all fellow officers, workers etc. who contributed enormously to the running of the club in 2011 and hopefully 2012 can bring more success on the sporting front.

The treasurers report, given by Declan Molloy, gave a detailed account of the clubs income & expenditure for the year. He thanked all who contributed financially and continue to support our local lotto and all those who supported our fund raising activities in the past year including the monthly draw. He compliment all the sponsors for their support which was most welcome including all the food & refreshments particularly after games. He acknowledged while costs are on a tight rein, as always significant funds are required for the daily running of the club and asked the members to continue their support.

Club PRO Brian O'Donnell thanked the local media outlets, in particular the Tuam Herald, for their coverage of the club’s activities in 2011.

President Brendan Geraghty complimented the club on a successful year and the prospects are looking good for further successes in the future. He complimented all the club officers & managers for their efforts and acknowledged the building of the Astro-turf was a most welcome facility

All team managers gave their respective team reports on the games during the course of the year. For the record the club officers elected for the coming year are as follows: President- Brendan Geraghty, Chairman- Brian Griffin, V.Chairman - , Secretary- Michael Coleman, Asst.Sec.- Brian Flaherty, Treasurer- Declan Molloy, PRO- Sharon Gannon, Club delegates, Sean Moran, Martin Treacy, Sinead Garvey & Aidan Flaherty, Child Welfare & ASAP Officer-Keith Higgins, Juvenile Chairman - Michael Coleman, Juvenile Secretary - Sinead Garvey. Team Managers: Junior- Brian Cooley, U-21- Declan Molloy, Minor- Keith Ruane

Underage Hurling & Camogie AGM has been scheduled for Wednesday the 7th of December at 7.30pm in the clubhouse to be followed by a members/players meeting at 9.00 to discuss intermediate manager/training etc for the 2012 season.

Newly elected Chairperson, Brian Griffin thanked Brendan Connolly & the other outgoing officers for all their work over the past year. He also thanked the new officers for coming on board & wished them well for the coming year. Finally in his address he highlighted the importance of having more people get involved in the club to help with every aspect i.e. coaching, fundraising etc.& welcomes any new people in the parish to come and join us.
